Soft Tissue Injuries

Soft tissue injuries can be painful and limit your ability to perform daily activities. At Campbelltown Physiotherapy, we specialise in treating soft tissue injuries using advanced electrotherapy equipment from American based company Chattanooga to enhance our therapies. Our state-of-the-art equipment includes shockwave therapy, laser therapy, ultrasound therapy, and electrical stimulation.

In addition, our team of experienced physiotherapists are trained in specialised muscle massage techniques to improve tissue remodelling whilst reducing the negative effects of poor scar tissue remodelling.

The aim of soft tissue therapy is to address dysfunction, pain, and/or injury within the soft tissues of the body, which include muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia. Soft tissue therapy can help to improve range of motion, decrease pain and inflammation, increase flexibility and strength, and promote healing of damaged tissues. Soft tissue therapy techniques can vary depending on the individual’s specific needs, and may include manual therapy, exercise prescription, stretching, and the use of advanced electrotherapy equipment, such as shockwave therapy, laser therapy, ultrasound therapy, and electrical stimulation therapy.

Our personalised treatment plans are tailored to your individual needs, helping you to get back to doing the things you love. Whether you are recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, or looking to improve your mobility, our team of physiotherapists will work with you to develop a treatment plan that meets your unique needs.

Electrotherapy

What is shockwave therapy?

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic waves to stimulate healing and reduce pain in injured tissues. The high-pressure waves produced by the shockwave machine promote blood flow and metabolic activity, which can help to accelerate the body’s natural healing processes. There is evidence to support the use of shockwave therapy for a range of conditions, including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, and tennis elbow. It has also been shown to be effective in reducing pain and improving function in patients with chronic musculoskeletal conditions.

What is Ultrasound therapy?

Ultrasound therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-frequency sound waves to improve blood flow and reduce pain in injured tissues. The sound waves produced by the ultrasound machine penetrate the skin and stimulate deep tissues, promoting healing and reducing inflammation. There is evidence to support the use of ultrasound therapy for a variety of conditions, including soft tissue injuries, osteoarthritis, and tendinitis. It has also been shown to be effective in reducing pain and improving function in patients with chronic musculoskeletal conditions.

What is Laser therapy?

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT), also known as cold laser therapy, is a non-invasive treatment that uses low-intensity light to stimulate healing and reduce pain in injured tissues. The light waves produced by the laser machine penetrate the skin and stimulate deep tissues, promoting healing and reducing inflammation. There is evidence to support the use of LLLT for a range of conditions, including soft tissue injuries, osteoarthritis, and chronic pain. It has also been shown to be effective in improving range of motion and reducing muscle fatigue in athletes.

What is electrical stimulation?

Electrical stimulation therapy using the Chattanooga Intelect Neo machine is a non-invasive treatment that uses electrical currents to stimulate the nerves and reduce pain in injured tissues. The machine produces electrical impulses that are delivered to the affected area through electrodes placed on the skin. There is evidence to support the use of electrical stimulation therapy for a range of conditions, including soft tissue injuries, chronic pain, and muscle weakness. It has also been shown to be effective in improving muscle function and reducing muscle atrophy in patients with neurological conditions.

Spinal Decompression

At Campbelltown Physiotherapy, we understand that spinal problems can be a major obstacle to your daily life. That’s why we offer spinal decompression therapy as a safe and effective treatment option for patients experiencing back pain, herniated discs, and other spinal conditions.

Spinal decompression therapy is a non-surgical, traction-based treatment that helps relieve pressure on the spine and promote healing. The procedure works by gently stretching the spine and creating negative pressure, which allows discs to return to their normal position and nutrients to flow more freely to the affected area. This can help reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and improve overall spinal function.

Our experienced physiotherapists are trained in spinal decompression therapy and will work with you to create a personalised treatment plan that meets your individual needs. We use state-of-the-art equipment to ensure that you receive the best possible care and achieve optimal results.

During your first visit, our physiotherapists will conduct a thorough evaluation of your spinal condition and medical history to determine whether spinal decompression therapy is the right option for you. If so, we will develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals.

Our spinal decompression therapy sessions typically last between 5 to 20 minutes and are performed in a comfortable and relaxing environment. Most patients experience significant pain relief after just a few sessions, although the number of treatments required will vary depending on the severity of your condition.

At Campbelltown Physiotherapy, our goal is to help you achieve optimal spinal health and function, so you can get back to doing the things you love. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and learn more about how spinal decompression therapy can benefit you.

Fracture Casting and 3D Splinting

Fracture management at Campbelltown Physiotherapy may involve various techniques, depending on the type and severity of the fracture, as well as the individual needs of the patient. Some common techniques used include:

1. Fiberglass casting: This involves applying layers of fiberglass tape or bandage, which are impregnated with a liquid resin that hardens over time to create a strong, supportive structure around the fractured bone.

2. Splinting: Splinting involves immobilising the affected limb with a rigid or semi-rigid device, such as a plaster or fiberglass splint or EXOS brace to allow the bone to heal properly.

3. Cam walker: A cam walker is a type of walking boot that is designed to provide support and stability to the affected limb. It is often used for fractures of the foot or ankle.

4. Bracing: Bracing may be used to provide additional support and stability to the affected limb during the healing process. Different types of braces may be used, depending on the location and severity of the fracture.

5. 3D scanning: 3D scanning is a relatively new technique that is used to create custom-fit casts and braces. It involves using a specialised scanner to create a 3D model of the affected limb, which is then used to create a cast or brace that is tailored to the patient’s individual needs. This technique is mainly used for children and adult AFO’s, lower and upper limb custom support splints.

Overall, fracture management at Campbelltown Physiotherapy is individualised to each patient’s needs and may involve one or more of these techniques to ensure the best possible outcome.

Exercise Physiology

Exercise physiology services at Campbelltown Physiotherapy are designed to help patients achieve their health and fitness goals through a personalised exercise program. Exercise physiologists are experts in exercise prescription and can develop tailored exercise plans to help patients manage various health conditions, recover from injuries, or improve their overall fitness and well-being.

Some common exercise physiology services offered at Campbelltown Physiotherapy may include:

1. Assessment and testing: Exercise physiologists will often begin with a comprehensive assessment to determine a patient’s current fitness level, health status, and any relevant medical history. This may involve various tests such as body composition analysis, cardiovascular fitness testing, and muscle strength testing.

2. Exercise prescription: Based on the results of the assessment, the exercise physiologist will develop a personalised exercise program that is tailored to the patient’s individual needs and goals. This may include a variety of exercises such as cardiovascular training, resistance training, and flexibility exercises.

3. Rehabilitation: Exercise physiologists can also work with patients who are recovering from injuries or medical conditions. They may develop rehabilitation programs that focus on specific areas of the body or work to improve overall function and mobility.

4. Chronic disease management: Exercise physiologists can help patients manage chronic health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. They may develop exercise programs that are specifically designed to manage these conditions and improve overall health outcomes.

5. Education and support: Exercise physiologists can also provide education and support to help patients understand the importance of exercise and maintain their exercise program over time.

Overall, exercise physiology services at Campbelltown Physiotherapy are designed to help patients achieve their health and fitness goals through personalised exercise programs that are tailored to their individual needs and goals.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is a therapeutic approach to exercise that involves performing exercises in a heated pool. The warm water temperature can provide numerous benefits such as reducing muscle tension, increasing circulation, and improving flexibility. The buoyancy of the water can help reduce the load on joints and muscles, making it easier to move and exercise. Additionally, the water acts as resistance, providing an additional challenge for strengthening exercises.

At Campbelltown Physiotherapy, our hydrotherapy pool is exclusively available to our patients and managed by our trained physiotherapists. Our pool is heated to a comfortable 37 degrees Celsius and has two main sections – a 1.3 metre deep section with surrounding bars for support, and a 2 metre deep section for certain exercises or to decompress the spine and lower limb joints.

Hydrotherapy can be an effective way to help patients recover from injuries, manage chronic pain, and improve overall physical function in a safe and supportive environment. Our hydrotherapy services start with a comprehensive assessment by one of our physiotherapists to determine the patient’s individual needs and goals. Once assessed, our physiotherapists will design a personalised treatment plan that is specific to the patient’s condition, functional goals, and abilities.

Patients can wear swimwear or appropriate exercise clothing for their hydrotherapy session. We also provide a waterproof wheelchair for those who need it. Our pool has a ramp for walking access and a hoist to safely lower patients into the water if needed.

To begin hydrotherapy at Campbelltown Physiotherapy, patients can contact our clinic to schedule an appointment. Our team will guide patients through the process and ensure that they receive the best possible care in a safe and supportive environment.
