Reduce pain, swelling and support the healing process

Electrotherapy is a non-invasive, drug-free treatment for physical rehabilitation

What is Electrotherapy?

Electrotherapy uses mild electrical pulses to reduce pain and promote healing. It’s a mild, safe treatment that is normally used alongside other physical therapy. Electrotherapy is similar to taking pain relief medication – without the drugs – in the sense that it gives short term relief as needed, and enables manual therapy, exercise therapy or other rehabilitation that might be otherwise too painful.

There are many different types of electrotherapy:

  • Ultrasound
  • Laser
  • Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
  • Interferential Therapy
  • Shockwave Therapy

Campbelltown Physiotherapy is equipped with modern electrotherapy devices that our expert physios use to support your rehabilitation and recovery.

When do physiotherapists use electrotherapy?

Electrotherapy is particularly useful for soft tissue injuries involving tendons, muscles or ligaments. Electrotherapy treatment aims to promote the healing process by increasing blood flow and cellular metabolism for:

  • Pain control
  • Oedema  (swelling) control
  • Muscle strengthening
  • Neuromuscular education
  • Increased local circulation
  • De-nervated nerve stimulation

Your physiotherapist will advise on electrotherapy options for your specific condition. Call our friendly team today or make an appointment online.
